A passport is not a salary formula
Searching for “Qatar salary by nationality” is understandable. People want to know whether the same work attracts the same pay. Our initial sample shows large salary differences within nationalities, as well as between them. It cannot isolate how much, if any, of those differences is caused by nationality.
The useful conclusion is narrower than “passports do not matter.” Your country of origin alone does not tell you where your salary should sit. Start with the work, career level and package, then examine nationality groupings with care.
The same origins appear across the salary spectrum
Among 21 reports labelled India, reported monthly figures range from QAR 2,000 to QAR 65,000. The upper end includes an oil-sector manager reporting QAR 65,000 plus health coverage and tickets. The group also includes an IT manager at QAR 35,000 and a digital media specialist at QAR 55,000.
Among 15 reports labelled Philippines, figures range from QAR 2,000 to QAR 37,000. A hotel front-office receptionist reports QAR 2,000 with accommodation, meals and transport. A BIM manager reports QAR 37,000 with additional housing and other benefits. A finance professional reports QAR 32,000.
Those examples show why a nationality average is a weak personal target. They compare different jobs and packages. They do not show what two equally qualified people doing identical work for the same employer would earn.
Correlation does not identify the cause
Suppose a nationality group contains more entry-level service roles, while another contains more senior specialists. Their average salaries could differ even if every employer used identical pay bands for comparable roles. This is a possible explanation called confounding, not a finding that we have proved in this sample.
The reverse warning matters too: differences within a nationality do not prove discrimination is absent. High earners from a country can coexist with unequal treatment elsewhere. Our data has no reliable controls for employer, seniority, duties, qualifications or hours, and experience is rarely reported. It cannot estimate an adjusted nationality pay gap.
Use nationality as context, not a ceiling
Filter the explorer by industry, read the individual job titles and check benefits before comparing origins. If only one or two entries match, treat them as examples rather than a market rate. A small sample does not become a fair benchmark just because it matches your passport.
Ask a prospective employer about the salary band for the role, the responsibilities that justify it and what is included in the package. Your strongest negotiation evidence connects your work and results to comparable work.
About this analysis
These figures use the initial the eligible reports, not later live contributions. Reports are unverified and self-selected. Currency and monthly frequency are inferred for many initial entries; figures mix basic pay and packages. Group labels describe reported origin, not independently verified citizenship. This is an educational comparison, not evidence establishing or dismissing unlawful treatment.
Check the figures for yourself
Our analysis uses an unverified initial sample. Live contributions can change the explorer. Read our purpose, limitations and disclaimer and inspect individual package notes before making comparisons.
