Where the higher salaries appear
Energy and technology have the highest industry medians in careers.qa’s initial sample: QAR 35,000 and QAR 32,000 a month respectively. These are medians of three energy reports and seven technology reports. They are not estimates of what everyone in either sector earns in Qatar.
The figures below describe a small, unverified snapshot. Industry categories sometimes combine an employer sector with a job family, so the comparison is exploratory rather than a clean classification of Qatar’s economy.
Energy: high figures, a very small group
The three energy reports are QAR 29,000, QAR 35,000 and QAR 65,000. Their median is QAR 35,000. The highest is an oil-sector manager; the QAR 29,000 entry is an HR specialist working in energy. That distinction matters: a corporate function can sit inside a high-paying sector.
Three reports are too few to describe the entire energy labour market. They do show why employer sector is worth considering alongside job title when you compare offers.
Technology: senior roles overlap with energy
The technology sample includes a cloud architect at QAR 45,000, an IT manager at QAR 35,000, and tech consulting and cyber-security programming reports at QAR 32,000 each. These figures overlap with the energy reports rather than sitting in a wholly separate pay tier.
Technology also includes IT support at QAR 1,700 and a cloud engineer at QAR 6,800. “Tech salary” is not one number. Responsibilities and career level are essential context. The cloud architect’s QAR 45,000 already includes QAR 12,000 housing, so adding that allowance again would overstate the package.
We cannot say technology is catching up with energy. There is no consistent time series here. What we can say is that some reported senior technology salaries are comparable to the reported energy salaries.
How the other groups compare
Education and research has a median of QAR 18,000 across four reports. Healthcare has QAR 16,000 across two. Engineering and construction has QAR 10,500 across 14 reports, with a wide range and an unusually high QAR 78,000 report whose pay period is disputed. The full industry table below shows counts and ranges alongside medians.
Lower medians in hospitality, transport and security, and the combined HR and administration group reflect the particular roles submitted. They are not a ranking of workers’ value or proof of a ceiling. HR and administration includes an HR business partner at QAR 29,000; the energy group separately includes an HR specialist at the same amount.
Compare the job and the package
Before targeting a sector, compare the work you could realistically move into. A junior support role and an IT manager share an industry label but not the same scope. Read the dot details for housing, flights, medical cover, school fees and bonuses. Annual or non-cash benefits should not be silently added to monthly cash.
All figures here are from the initial sample, with ranges represented by midpoints. The live explorer can change as people contribute. A sector median based on a handful of reports is a starting point for questions, not a promised salary.
