1. Get the actual job scope
Ask what you will own, who you will report to and what success looks like in the first six months. “Manager” can mean running a department or managing your own accounts. Compare the responsibilities before comparing the title.
2. Separate basic salary from monthly cash
Ask for a written breakdown of basic salary and fixed cash allowances. Then list housing provided by the employer, medical insurance, flights, school support and other non-cash benefits separately. A QAR 15,000 basic salary plus housing is a different offer from QAR 15,000 including all allowances.
3. Treat a bonus as uncertain unless guaranteed
Ask how the bonus is calculated, when it is paid and what happens if you join partway through the year. Build your recurring budget around dependable income. A possible annual bonus should not quietly become money you assume will arrive every month.
4. Compare work patterns
Check working days, hours, travel, on-call expectations and flexibility. The same monthly salary can represent very different demands on your time. These details also affect whether a role fits family life and the commute you want.
5. Bring evidence to the salary conversation
Use several comparable reports, current role descriptions and recruiter conversations. Explain the results you can deliver and the responsibilities you are taking on. A single high salary in a chart is a weak argument if the role bears little resemblance to yours.
6. Ask about development and progression
Find out who will support you, what you can learn and how promotion decisions work. Ask when pay is reviewed and whether the offer’s progression depends on a stated process or an informal promise. Keep a record of the terms that matter to your decision.
7. Read the complete offer before deciding
Review the written terms and ask for clarification where anything is unclear. Check your housing and commuting costs against the dependable cash amount. Seek qualified advice for legal or contract questions; this checklist is general career information.
